Harley Memory Clinic

The Harley Memory Clinic provides specialist assessment and treatment for people who have memory problems, which may or may not be related to health conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The clinic is designed to provide specialist care for those who have problems remembering things, people who find it difficult to recall recent events, people who get confused easily and those who experience difficulty in conveying words when talking to others or trying to recall information.

Patients attending the clinic see two consultants: Firstly, a consultant physician and then a consultant clinical neuropsychologist. Treatments and services available at the Harley Memory Clinic include:

  • Consultation and assessment
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment: this may include medication, psychological support, self-help techniques and memory strategies

As patients are seen by two consultants they will always have the benefit of a second opinion. The consultants work together to confirm diagnosis and draw up a personalised treatment plan, being based on the preferences and needs of the individual. The Harley Memory Clinic is comprised of consultant physician, Dr Christopher James, and consultant neuropsychologist, Dr Tracey Ryan-Morgan.

Dr James finished his studies at the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1984 and then chose to undertake research into the epidemiology and genetics of motor neurone disease. This resulted in him gaining an MD from the University of Wales. He lectured at the University of Bristol and is now an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Cardiff University School of Medicine. Dr James has a special interest in care for the elderly.

Dr Ryan-Morgan attained a degree in psychology before undertaking a PhD in Neuropsychology and clinical training with the British Psychological Society. She became Head of Speciality for Clinical Neuropsychology and Deputy Head of Clinical Psychology at the Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust. This has led to her having vast experience in both private and NHS practice, although she is now focused solely on private work.
